Global Networks & Service Organizations

Besides creative opportunities and harnessing individual artistic expression, choreographers also have practical needs to fulfill if they want to create and share their dances. Regionally, nationally and globally choreographers can turn to service organizations for funding, touring, marketing, and even labor union issues.

International Dance Council, aka Council International de Dance - CID, is the global overarching dance organization under the umbrella of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). CID brings together international, national, and local organizations, as well as select individuals active in dance, including choreographers. This non-governmental organization, founded in 1973 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where it is currently based, features membership with prominent federations, organizations, associations, schools, companies, and individuals in more than 170 countries.
World Dance Alliance is an independent, non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization. WDA’s mission is to serve as a primary voice for dance, dancers, dance teachers, and choreographers throughout the world, and encourages the exchange of ideas and the awareness of dance in all its forms. World Dance Alliance operates via its three regional centers with an overarching global executive bringing the three regions together in matters of policy and global projects.
The International Dance Organization - IDO, is a World Dance and Dancesport Federation with a membership in more than 90 nations, representing more than 250,000 dancers and choreographers from six continents. Members may participate in the many championship and world cup events by contacting their National Federation for information on its qualifying events.
